Pats Peak
I felt great going in with some time off the bike after the Longsjo Classic. There were 20 or so on the start line. From the whistle, it was straight uphill for a ways, I got to the top of this beginning climb in 5th and held that till the muddy singletrack came. It was extremely muddy, deep holes that would sink your wheel to the hub. Two guys went down in front of me, I got around them and out of the woods to an open area, where I passed the remaining two in front to take the lead. I kept it steady for the rest of the lap and Craig K., the points leader for Root66Series caught up with me on the final climb about 1.5mi from the finish of the lap1 along with one other rider. The 3 of us finished the climb together, me now in 3rd, but the 2nd place guy wobbled just before the top on some tricky singletrack and I got by him before the decent, so I was chasing Craig down to the start/finish and dropping the rider behind me, I ended the lap down :30secs or so.

Lap 2 -- I chased the entire lap with Craig in sight most of that lap, I was closing the gap quite significantly on one of the longer climbs or maybe it just looked that way because it was so steep, but eventually I gave that time back as the start/finish neared, and I was down a couple of minutes.

Lap3-- I had lost sight of the leader and looked like I was going to settle for 2nd yet again. As I crested the last real climb of the lap I got caught by the 3rd place rider, surely not, I was about to go downhill, No!!! I thought, so as I begin the descent with the 3rd place rider on my tail, somehow with about a mile to go I evade him and beat him by :51secs at the line for another 2nd place, my 3rd of the year 3:40 back of the winner. Watch out on Stage 5 Coit downhill, I?m getting faster going downhill ? clear the way.

On another note:
Prior to Pats Peak on Saturday I did the bike leg of the Give Peace A Tri ? triathlon in Surry, NH . Our team finished 2nd in the team standings by 26secs and 3rd overall. I did the 8mi bike route (7.86mi by my computer) in 19:01 (~24mph) I was 2:31 faster 2nd place of 171 entrants.

Way to go Tim.

I wanted to do it, but just wasn't up to it.

I raced the two previous weekends at root66.

Tim sounds like you have been struck by the Pinnacle 2nd place phenomenon.

Great Job.
