It is now time to sign up for the greatest race on earth...... well in Sullivan County anyway...

The Pinnacle Challenge is in its 5th year and is ready to knock your socks off again. Registration has been light, so syrup will be plentiful, and if you sign up soon, you will get a wicking T-shirt.

If you are not going to race, let me know and we can find a spot for you out on the course to help marshal, and what not.

The course is eerily similar to years past so you can shoot for personal bests on the same course. The Mountain bike course has seen some improvements and tweeks to soften the roots, but not soften the challenge. It still pays to have a experienced Mountain biker. Route 10 has been recently paved so the road bike portion will see some quick times. The chickens are being gathered for feeding after the race. The run courses remain unchanged.

It pays to preride and check out the course.

As a cautionary note there is a Disc Golf Tournament the Saturday before the race (Oct 3rd) so parts of the course will be closed for Mtn bike traffic, but plenty of riding is still to be had.

See you at the races...........

Jewels, you will need to do photo duty on this one if you are not racing and are available. Sad but I am working night before and next 2 as well.

Sure going to miss Lovern Hill.

Already offered earlier today! But I will miss you this year. Even if I'm not riding, I certainly can't be in all of the places I'd like to be at once. I may solicit the youngest member of my family with that brand new, snazzy camera like mine to help...that work stuff sure screws up our social lives now, doesn't it?

Julie.

How many locals do we have racing solo/teams. Any predictions or goals. I am signed up solo and hope to break 2:30 this year.

I'm gonna try my hand at it this year. Somehow, on paper sub 2:30 looks very attainable... but I imagine it's not going to play out the way I imagine it.
30min road run
2min transition
42min MTB
1min transtition
42 min road ride
2min transition
30min death march
=2:29... doesn't it?
Sitting here at my desk I feel like these times are fairly conservative, but when they're all back-to-back-to-back....-to-back, I probably won't be feeling that way.

This is almost what I planned, but exactly opposite on times. My runs will definitely be slower, bikes faster, but hopefully still under 2:30.

Adam, considering you are a much faster runner than I, those times seem attainable. I will tell you I have played the numbers game 4 years prior, and it just never works out the way you think it's going to, so this year no numbers for me. One goal, just finish. If I was as fast a runner as you I would have broke 2:30 by now but as it stands I seem to be in the mid 2:30's each year. If you really want to delve into the numbers check out the results from last year.

My recommendation would be to run the initial road stage conservatively and take it from there.

Speaking of transitions is Massa doing it this year. If so we need a dedicated video camera on his transitions so we can study his technique for next year. It would be fun to play back his transitions during the awards. :D I can barely run from one end of the transition area to the other in the time he can get in, switch gear, and get back out again.
