Missed this.....although the race pace part may have deterred me. Moab boys, you will be happy to know, I completed 30 miles this morning. First real training ride for the trip. Maybe there is hope.

Things learned today.
1. A schnauzer can run up Loverin Hill faster than I can pedal. They are stubborn little dogs, even after getting hit in the chin by my heel on a pedal stroke he continued to go after my rear tire. He was at one of the first houses on the right as you go up the hill. He will follow for several hundred feet.

2. There is a sinkhole on Croydon Turnpike Rd. on the down hill section about 1/2 mile before corner of Croydon Brook Rd. It is near the center line but definitively in our travel lane. I was distracted by a person going to their mail box and did not see the sinkhole. Hit at about 35mph in aero position. This is as close as I have ever come to crashing on a road bike. Hit so hard the bars bent down and the chain came off the big ring, both derailleurs tweeked being pulled by the chain and my pedaling. I will go up there this afternoon and mark it with an X using white paint.
3. These events do not give one confidence.

Sorry I missed it Dan. Glad you were able to do the field work for the rest of us.

The schnauzer has chased me up the hill a couple of times, but didn't catch me. It must be getting faster.

Hope your bike and your confidence recover.

Maybe now is the time for a Loverin Hill climb, nothing motivates me to go fast like an animal chasing me.

Maybe a visit to Mr. & Mrs. schnauzer owner is in order before the race. This dog may cause an accident.
