Won't be long before the 3 month training session begins.

Ken,

Where are all of the road cycling races I was expecting to see in your schedule?

Chris

P.S. I just signed up for the covered bridges 1/2 marathon with Tina ... in an effort to be ready for the six in the stix (so long as it does not conflict with a road cycling race) and to earn some race points!

I was going to talk to you about that. I don't know which ones I should do, other than Sunapee. Can you give me an idea of which races I should try? Once I know, then I can add them to my schedule.

I have also set a new, very large goal for myself that I am going to be working with PJ on.

PJ, tell me about the Urban Adventure Race in Manchester as well as the Race to Face. I may need to augment my MTB race schedule.

Ken,

You may need to think about doing additional triathlons in order to work up to Timberman. Training is great but its no substitute for participating in a triathlon. My suggestions:

Mooseman 1/4 Iron in the end of May
Eastman Splash, Mash & Dash mid-June
Fairlee Great Triathlon in Fairlee VT end of June or early July

You may want to look at some races in Mass as well in July. A fun one is the Old Colony YMCA Triathlon down towards the Cape in mid-July. its sponsored by Fiske Independent Race Management (FIRM). Its an Olympic distance race (1 mile swim, 26 mile bike, 10k run). The best part is that it was flat flat flat. I did it two years ago and averaged 24 mph on the bike. It was fun passing all the flatlanders who don't know what hills are.

The biggest thing is to get used to transitioning and also to the flow of the races - the "aqua scrum" at the beginning of the swim, knowing how to keep your distance between bikes so you don't get fouled for drafting, and how to handling the bike to run transition. You'll get a feel for what you need in transition and what you don't, etc.

Thanks Joe, thats great info. I am actually planning on doing an Xterra in June/July and I was hoping to do a couple sprint Tri's this summer. Up until now I didn't really know which Tri's I should try.

It looks like the Mooseman Triathlon: International distance would be a good one.

Mooseman: June 2nd
Eastman: June 23rd
Xterra: July 29th

Timberman: August 18th
