My first race of the season will be this weekend. I get to test my running legs, see how they hold up. Dana and Randy will be entering also.

I have finished my first race of the year. It wasn't 10 below, but it was definitely 10K.

The race started out not so good. My legs were very tight and I wasn't sure I was going to make it the whole way. After about 10 minutes they starting feeling much better and I slowly started speeding up. The loop was interesting, an out and back on a ice/snow covered dirt road with rolling hills. There was a little water station at the 2 mile mark where I got a little water on the way out and back.

On the way out, there was a group of people pulling away from me, once I made the turnaround, I slowly started catching up and ended up catching and passing about 3 people. The 3rd person I passed started to catch back up to me near the end, so the last few hundred feet I had to speed up into a sprint to keep him off. I ended up finishing about 20 seconds ahead of him.

I finished 19th out of 49 with a time of 48:46.

You couldn't have asked for a better February morning for a race like this.

Some of the pictures really show how nice and blue the sky was.
