A man was at the local trail for his weekly ride on the mountain bike.

He was there to ride 8 laps and his first lap was 25:45 and 2nd 25:30.

On the third he had just finished with his fastest time yet when his cell phone rang. It was a doctor notifying him that his wife had just been in a terrible accident and that she was in critical condition in ICU.

The man told the doctor to inform his wife where he was and that the he'd be there as soon as possible.

As he hung up he realized he was leaving what was shaping up to be his fastest times ever on this trail.

He decided to get in one more lap before heading to the hospital.

He ended up riding all 8 laps, finishing with what was his best time ever..he beat the course record by 8 minutes and his personal best by 4 minutes.

He was jubilant.... then he remembered his wife.

Feeling guilty he dashed to the hospital. He saw the doctor in the corridor and asked about his wife's condition.

The doctor glared at him and shouted, "You went ahead and finished your laps didn't you?"

"I hope you're proud of yourself!"

"While you were out for the past 2 hours enjoying yourself at the trail, your wife has been languishing in the ICU! It's just as well you went ahead and finished those laps because it will be more than likely your last!"

"For the rest of her life she will require 'round the clock care. And you'll be her care giver!"

The man was feeling so guilty he broke down and sobbed.

The doctor snickered and said,

"Just messing with you man. She's dead. .What were your lap times?"

Not sure this is right for all audiences, Brian.

Ryan

p.s. Not finish laps, head straight to hospital.
p.s.s Finish laps and put a serious hurting on the doctor not to mention sue him for all he's worth.

You can't be a true New Hampshirite if you have to sue, sue, sue.

Maybe just threaten to sue in exchange for the doctor's road bike, I bet he has a good one.

I'm not sue happy but I'm sure it would end up in court, if for no other reason the hurting I'd put on the doctor for saying such a thing.

You didn't say what you'd do Ryderjag.

This entire thread is really in poor taste. But what I would do is quickly as possible stop the ride and go to the hospital. Since we all know she is a goner anyway I would respectfully take care of her belongings and then pull up the Specialized S Works web site and pick out a new road and mountain bike with the insurance money. I would name the bikes after my beloved wife.
