I would be interested in this. If anyone else goes, I will probably go along. Looks like I should start getting my MTB back in good working order.

Do you have an estimate on how many vertical feet of climbing there is? What is the technical level of the course, novice, sport or expert?

[quote:92c77c40e6="Lennon"]Hi,

There is not much climbing and it is not too technical, overall.

I would say, since it is a time trial, the technical level might be
almost Sport, given the intensity of the event and the wet conditions.

The main yellow dot trail is mostly rolling single track with some
switchback sections and a few rock fields. There are maybe five or six
climbs at most, none of which are more than probably 50 or 75 feet of
rise and probably average 20 or 30 feet of rise. A couple last for a
quarter mile at most. A couple are only 100 linear feet or less, but
more steep.

There is a 1.5 mile section, about 1.2 miles in, that bucks off to the
left and goes down to the pond. The return is a soft doubletrack climb
back to the main trail and will grind racers down some.

The main trail is pretty rooty and the recent rains/snow have not helped
the trail in that respect. There are a couple of stream crossings, too.

The trail will come out onto backroads twice for about .3 miles each time.

The final section is a mudbog grind that starts out flat and gradually
rises for about a half mile.

Overall the trail is a blast :)

Hope that helps,

-Lennon

76 registered racers, 2 representatives from Team Pinnacle. Should be a good time.

Well, the race was a blast. The trails were very fast, I was pushing big ring almost the whole time. I finished 3rd overall Novice with a time of 36:39, 11 seconds off 2nd place and 30 seconds off 1st place. Then I believe it was 2+ minutes back to 4th place.

I had a couple dissapointing things happen. 1st, I endo'd near the end of the race which made me lose atleast 15 seconds. Second, I didn't know where the end of the race was until I turned the final corner and road the last 10 feet, so I didn't get a chance to put in a final sprint.

Other than that, the trails were fast with some fun places to launch off things, lots of fast corners and only a little mud.

The unfortunate part was that there was not much technical riding, which is where I passed 5 of the 6 people that I passed. People finished and they were like "Man, that was some technical riding. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it". I couldn't help but laugh.

Also, I spread the word about Team Pinnacle down there and our races. There were a couple people there from the Challenge, who told me they can't wait for it this year. I also told a few new people about it and they were very interested. I also talked to the guy hosting the race and he wants me to forward out site onto him so he can look around and spread the word.

Dan, you would have loved it. Bring your Salsa down there and you could have cleaned up. There were a large number of SS rigids. One guy had a Specialized S-Works with a rigid Carbon fork like yours and the same seat you have.

Ken is right, it was a blast! Just Great to be able to ride the trails. Sunny skies, temps in the 50s. I rode the middle ring all the way. My free wheel kept sticking. No real blood, only few bruises. 15th out 19 in Beginners, I beat everyone who had broken pedals, chains and flat tires and had to run most the course. 13:06 behind Ken over 7 miles, and I'm in better shape than I was when I started last June.

Good job Dana. Glad you could go down with Ken. You know I have seen some guys (PJ Claremont) do a race with just one pedal and still be fast.

The impressive part was that the person that finished with a single pedal is about 10 years old racing with his dad, who by the way is the local guy that beat me by 30 seconds.

I hate busted free wheels, one really needs to be able to coast sometimes. I snapped the XT hub freewheel that came with my bike in about 3 months. I think it was a bad batch or something though because I know a few people did a similar thing around the same time.

Good job Dana, it sounded totally worth the trip.

Here is a link to the final results. Had I done Sport, I would have finished 9th in my age group, 14th overall and would have been 1 of 2 people from NH. The other is from Nashua.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for coming down! I just put some pics up, but be sure to download the large format pics zip file (link at top). There are a couple good shots of you two coming through after the experts.

Its a big file, but it is worth it. If you unzip it and look at the pics in Microsoft picture viewer, you can almost get an animation out of it (the "expert_corner" pics, at least...).

Seeya next year!
