Hey...my seatpost keeps dropping slowly as I ride through the woods...any ideas how to stop it? I have a quick release Race Face clamp and a Race Face seatpost (both may be "cheap"). I have considered getting a Thompson seatpost, but I am not sure if the issue is the clamp or the post.

I have thought about welding steel rebar supports on both sides of the seat for support...and casting my seat in concrete or something...or drill holes and install bolts??

My old (ancient) Specialized never had these problems. I'm confused.

Thanks,

Brian

I have never been able to tighten quick release seatposts enough, so I always trade them in for a seat collar that tightens with an allen screw, problem fixed. I don't think it is your seatpost, just the clamp.

I agree, went away from the quick release many years ago.

Yeh, allen wrench style is probably best.

I do however, have a quick release on my MTB and generally never had a problem with it slipping, it does occassionally start to creak a lot thou. Make sure you clean the post and the bike tube inside where the post slides in really good, then I ususally grease the post (I know this seams counter intuative but it works), this keeps the dirt out of it (for a while), then I really crank down on the quick release. I also mark the post so I know if it has slipped at all. I have a specialized bike with specialized quick release, and I think it's a specialized post.

FYI, they do make different post diameters, I'm assuming you have the right one.

Like PJ & Brian said thou, you are probably better off with the allen wrench style thou.

I have a Hope quick release on my new bike and it has a little larger lever than other releases I have seen. So I can get more leverage on it. It works fine now. But really, how often do you adjust the seat anyway?

like once a year maybe, another good reason to go with allen wrench style.
